Never Gonna Come Back Down

Because it's fucking amazing. And heartbreaking and infuriating and very, VERY eye-opening. it's about fitting in, and us-and-them, and the gatekeeper shit that goes on in deciding who gets to be us and who has to be them. And how the terms of being 'us; will always change just when one thinks they've made it.

I really hate 'but but but if THEY want to be accepted then they should act NORMAL like US!' ignorance.

No matter how much you try to fit in, if the gatekeepers have decided ahead of time that you don't, then they'll ditch you at the mall for kicks or chase you into bathrooms or find some other way to hurt you.

If the gatekeepers decide that you are an outsider, NOTHING YOU DO WILL EVER, EVER BE ENOUGH.

You can try until you're sick.

It will never be enough. You will never ascend the pantheon.

People who demand assimilation disgust me because what they want is not assimilation. They want 'those people' to simply stop existing.

Read that post. Just - read it. Shweta is a thousand times better a writer than me and expresses herself more elegantly than I ever could.

Don't try to tell anyone that all THOSE PEOPLE need to do is try harder to fit in, because it's a really sick lie to be perpetuating.
